Mireia Jaimot Palleja

Spanish Tutor

I am a native Spanish speaker currently studying Biomedical Sciences at UCL where I have won several awards for my research project. I have a passion for inspiring people to learn and have extensive experience teaching.

Biography

I have lived in Spain my whole life but my sense of adventure and ambition has drawn me away from home to London where I now live and study.

Personal Approach

I believe that patience is key to good teaching. Students need teachers that are willing to take the time to fully explore the route of their misunderstanding before attempting to tackle it.

When I'm not tutoring...

One of my passions is travelling. I would love to go to every country in the world and experience their different cultures and even learn their languages.

Julian Wuttke

German, Maths & Economics Tutor

Hello! I am a very enthusiastic, dynamic and hard-working undergraduate, currently studying at the London School of Economics. As a tutor, I strongly believe in tailoring my classes to the individual needs of my students, and will work closely with them to achieve outstanding results. Having been awarded 44 out of 45 points at the IB, including 7 out of 7 in Higher Level Mathematics, Economics and Philosophy, I am confident my experience, passion and ambition can help my students grow academically.

Biography

Being of Belgian and German descent, yet raised across Asia and Europe and schooled in a variety of French, English and German curriculums, I consider myself an international student with a global, open-minded outlook on life. After finishing high school in Singapore, I decided to spend a year abroad studying at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland before commencing my studies at the LSE.

Personal Approach

The most important aspect of my teaching philosophy is quite simple: that the specific needs of my students come first. I expect to work closely with them, support them based on where I see a need to progress and mould my classes accordingly. I also strongly believe that there is no substitute to hard work and perseverance. By inspiring my students and sharing my passion for what I teach, however, I have faith this will come naturally.

When I'm not tutoring...

Passionate about jazz, r&b and soul, I am an avid music producer in my spare time. I love the freedom of travelling, being involved in athletic activities and spending time with friends and family.

Alena Sim

Science & Italian Tutor

I am a second year medical student at Barts and the London University. I graduated with a first class degree in Neuroscience (UCL) in 2014 and I was nominated for the Dean’s list.

Biography

Born to an Anglo-Italian family and attending the European School in Oxford for many years, I have been brought up in a multicultural environment. Although I am passionate about languages, science is my main interest and my biggest dream is to become a paediatrician.

Personal Approach

I believe everyone has the potential to succeed and excel; finding the best way to do this independently is what I try to achieve during the tutoring lessons. I adapt the teaching to the needs of the student and, working as a team, I try to draw out enthusiasm and interest in the subject as well as providing a solid structure.

When I'm not tutoring...

I absolutely love cooking and I would love to travel around the world. I would not consider myself a sporty person…an evening with friends sounds much more appealing to me than some time at the gym!

Clara Nevola

Italian & Science Tutor

I’ve recently finished a Biology degree at Imperial College, and now I’m training to be a solicitor. I have experience tutoring 13-18 year olds in Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Italian.

Biography

I’ve lived most of my life in Italy and I’m a native speaker of English and Italian. I moved to the UK in 2008 and attended the European School in Culham, Oxfordshire, where I had a bilingual education with a focus of the Sciences, achieving an overall final grade of 94.4%. In 2015 I graduated from Imperial with a 2:1 in Biology.

Personal Approach

I believe that understanding why something matters makes learning something a whole lot easier. That’s why, while maintaining the focus on the school syllabus or exam at hand, I encourage my tutees to understand the exciting concepts that underpin the scientific subjects they’re learning.

When I'm not tutoring...

I love ballet- both doing it and watching it in theatres!

Max von Wietersheim-Kramsta

Spanish, German & Science Tutor

I am currently in the 1st year of his physics degree at Imperial College London. I have more than three years of tutoring experience in Spain where I taught science, maths and languages to GCSE and A-level students, and adults.

Biography

My family moved from Germany to Spain when I was three years old. This allowed me to achieve a native level of Spanish, German and Catalan. Later, I was awarded a scholarship that allowed me to study the first year of my A-levels in Canada. Moreover, another private scholarship allowed me to work and study at renowned research centres in the Pyrenees, Porto and the Canary Islands during the summers. All of this made me grow as a person and produced a published scientific paper about cosmology. Recently, I finished my A-levels in Spain with honours.

Personal Approach

My tutoring classes are focused on study techniques as well as on learning how to learn, while giving you the simplest and most structured explanation for the treated concepts. I like to keep the classes interesting by showing my own passion for science, and by implementing personal knowledge about culture and mentality in my language classes.

When I'm not tutoring...

I am most likely to do sports with friends. I also enjoy getting involved in research projects, watching movies and travelling around the world.

Jennifer Osei-Mensah

French Tutor

I am currently in my first year studying French and Italian at UCL, after finishing sixth form at Weald of Kent Grammar School with A*AB grades, and receiving the French Award last year. Studying French at A Level, particularly French literature, inspired me to tackle Italian from scratch at university, and I hope to share this love for languages with my students.

Biography

I was born and raised in Kent but travelled a lot when I was younger, particularly to France, and therefore developed a keen interest in learning languages and experiencing different culture (especially food.) My family recently relocated to Nairobi, Kenya, where I get to spend a lot of my time when I’m not in London.

Personal Approach

I believe the key to succeeding at languages is making your study personal, interesting and enjoyable. I hope to help students become enthusiastic and excited about learning French, by focussing on their interests, strengths and weaknesses, and therefore tailoring sessions to suit their methods of learning.

When I'm not tutoring...

I love music and singing, particularly jazz and musical theatre, so I can usually be found being noisy somewhere.

Alejandro Sabal

Economics, Maths & Spanish Tutor

Before starting a BSc in Economics at the London School of Economics, I was raised in Barcelona, where I completed the IB Diploma at the Benjamin Franklin International School (BFIS). Studying in an international school in Barcelona not only benefitted me academically, but also allowed me to learn English alongside the two local languages of my hometown: Spanish and Catalan.

Biography

I was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1997 though I was raised in Barcelona. From a very young age, I developed a clear interest in economics, mathematics and politics. This passion allowed me to become an interested student. Having learned English in school, I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree in Economics in London, at the LSE. In London, I have learned to adapt to a completely different, hard-working and open-minded culture which I admire.

Personal Approach

From experience, I firmly believe that the key to success is to develop an interest in what you are learning. Therefore, as a Maths, Economics, and Spanish tutor my job is to make the subjects interesting for the students. I think interest is contagious, which is why I am certain that I will transmit my passion on these subjects to all students.

When I'm not tutoring...

I have a passion for skiing and football, Spanish, Peruvian, and Mediterranean food, and latin music. I love travelling around the world, and I highly value spending time with my family and my friends.

Isabel Cueva

Biology & Spanish Tutor

I am currently studying a masters in Clinical Neurology at UCL. When I was doing my MBBS degree in my third year, I successfully applied for the prestigious post as biochemistry teacher assistant in biochemistry. I spent two years tutoring first year’s medical students. This job has been one of the most rewarding positions I had, as it has allowed me to start an academic position while progressing my medical career.

Biography

I was born in Ecuador. At secondary school, I was conferred the second best student of the 2007 class. Then I decided to study medicine, where I was awarded the seventh best student nomination of the 2013 class.

Personal Approach

I am a really patient tutor who believes in building learning on solid foundations and also in teaching not only the core concepts of a topic but also it's applications. I also encourage students to ask questions and to make them feel confident about the subject we are reviewing.

When I'm not tutoring...

When I am not tutoring or studying, I enjoy running and trying different cuisines.

Faith Thomson

French Tutor

I am recent graduate of a Masters of the Arts degree in French Studies from the University of Aberdeen. The most notable piece of work I have produced during my studies is a dissertation on the vitality and history of a dialect in north-eastern France (Franconian). This dissertation was focused on researching the declining use of the dialect among young people in the region, and it is hoped that its findings may be used as a stepping-stone for further research on the subject.

Biography

Despite having grown up in a relatively quiet area of north-eastern Scotland, I consider myself to be a world-oriented person. Studying languages at university has given me a different perspective on the world and a unique understanding of how people interact. Not only this, it has also given me the opportunity to expand the horizons of others through the practice of translation. Indeed, I have been an active translator for the United Nations since 2015 and I am also a subtitler for Ted Talks.

Personal Approach

I believe that building confidence is key to successful tutoring. Setting achievable goals to build a student's confidence as well as encourage progress will ensure that a student is able to perform well both in the classroom and under exam conditions.

When I'm not tutoring...

From June, I will be working as a trainee project manager in a translation agency in central London. In this post, I ensure that the translation process runs smoothly and efficiently, by liasing with both clients and freelance translators, and proofreading the finished product,
